Ranch Sorting

Ranch Sorting is one of the fastest growing equine sports.  In this timed, team event, the cattle are cut in numbered order from the herd and driven to the adjoining pen.

OutWest has several opportunities for riders of all abilities to participate in sorting events, including Practice, Summer Leagues and Jackpots.

Ranch Sorting Practice

Friday nights at OutWest Sorting Practice we focus on fun, so if you're new to the sport, this is the place to come and get your feet wet.  We run in teams of four (large pen) or teams of two (small pens), so bring your friends, or come alone -either way, we'll rotate you in with a variety of riders.  Cost is $25 per rider and start time is around 6pm.

OutWest Sorting Leagues

Wednesday night Sorting Leagues at OutWest Arena will start back up in the spring of 2012!  In each league, there are four sessions with 14 riders each offered at different time slots and run for 6 weeks. 

This will be a 2-person Ranch Cut & Sort and will be run as an individual competition.  What that means is that you don't need to bring a team -instead, you will be riding two times with every other competitor, and we will track points individually.  (For example, if you and your partner have the fastest time of the night, you both earn first place points).  We've done this before, and continue to have positive feedback, so we will be bringing it back again this season.  You'll be competing for some OutWest buckles and other great OutWest prizes. 

Before the first night of league, you will be assigned a number at random (1 - 14).  That number stays with you for the entire league, and a schedule indicates the pairings for each night of league.  View the schedules by clicking on links in the box at the right hand side of this page. 

Cost is $150 per rider.  For those of you who want to sign up for multiple sessions in one league, there is a price break as follows:  2 sessions cost is $275 and 3 sessions cost is $400. 

Cut & Sort Jackpots

OutWest hosts multiple Jackpot events every year.  The 2012 dates will be May 26th, July 7th, August 4th @ the Wright County Fairgrounds and September 8th. 

Also, keep in mind that our biggest Ranch Cut and Sort Jackpot of the season is at the Wright County Fairgrounds during the run of the Wright County Fair in Howard Lake on Saturday evening, August 4th, 2012!
