Ranch Sorting

Ranch Sorting is one of the fastest growing equine sports.  In this timed, team event, the cattle are cut in numbered order from the herd and driven to the adjoining pen.

OutWest has several opportunities for riders of all abilities to participate in sorting events, including Practice, Summer Leagues and Jackpots.

Ranch Sorting Practice

Friday nights at OutWest Sorting Practice we focus on fun, so if you're new to the sport, this is the place to come and get your feet wet.  We run in teams of four, so bring your friends, or come alone -either way, we'll rotate you in with a variety of riders.  Cost is $25 per rider and start time is around 6pm.

OutWest Sorting Leagues

Wednesday night Sorting Leagues at OutWest Arena will start May 12 with our Spring leagues followed by our Summer and Fall leagues! Each season there will be three leagues of 14 riders (6pm, 7pm and 8pm), and each league runs 7 weeks. 

This will be a 2-person Ranch Cut & Sort and will be run as an individual competition.  What that means is that you don't need to bring a team -instead, you will be riding two times with every other competitor, and we will track points individually.  (For example, if you and your partner have the fastest time of the night, you both earn first place points).  We've done this before, and feedback from all of you was very positive, so we're going to try it again.  You'll be competing for some OutWest buckles and other great OutWest prizes. 

The first night of league, you will draw a number (1 - 14).  That number stays with you for the entire league, and a schedule indicates the pairings for each night of league.  View the schedules by clicking on links in the box at the right hand side of this page. 

Every Wednesday night, you will be paired up with two different riders.  You will ride two times with each of your partners, for a total of 4 rides per night.  On the 7th week of the league, you will ride two times with your last partner and awards ceremony will follow.

Cost is $150 per rider.  For those of you who want to sign up for multiple leagues in one season, there is a price break as follows:  2 leagues cost is $275 and 3 leagues cost is $400. 

Cut & Sort Jackpots

During the 2010 season, OutWest will be hosting Jackpots again.  Take special note of the Wright County Fair Jackpot Saturday, August 7th, which will be an evening event during the week of the fair.
